Martin (Marty) Anderson graduated from the University of Alaska with an AAS in welding and NDT as well as a certificate in Welding Technology and another in Non-Destructive Testing. Anderson was the owner of Alaska Technical Training, a non-destructive training center in Kenai, Alaska for over 13 years. Selling his business in 2019, Currently Marty is in the process of obtaining an API 1169 and his 8th ASNT NDT Level III in Leak Testing.

With more than 40 years of inspection, auditing and welding experience, Anderson holds seven ASNT NDT Level III certifications (RT, UT, VT, MT, PT, ML, ET), a Level III in Coating Inspection with the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), as well as a Senior Corrosion Technologist rating. Anderson is also certified as a Welding Educator, Senior Welding Inspector, and Radiographic Film Interpreter with the American Welding Society (AWS). With the American Petroleum Institute (API), Anderson holds certifications 570 (In-Service Piping Inspector), 653 (Above-Ground Storage Tank Inspector) and API 577 (Weld Inspection and Metallurgy) Marty also holds an active above ground storage tank inspector cert (SP-001) with the Steel Tank Institute. Marty holds certifications with SSPC as a certified insulation inspector, fireproof inspector, and a protective coatings specialist. With the American Society of Quality, he holds a certification as a quality auditor (CQM).

Other certifications previously held include Leak Testing Level II; Infrared Level II, IRRSP certification (Radiation Safety) and Receipt/Vendor Inspector and supplier quality surveillance (SQS).

As an active member of the American Society of Nondestructive (ASNT) since 1993, Anderson was the Alaska Section Chair for ten years. He has previously served as Section Vice Chair and Secretary. Additionally, Anderson was the Chairman for the Magnetic Flux Leakage Committee (9 years) for Technical and Educational Council (T&E) and the MFL Chair on the Certification Management Council (CMC) for 13 years. He was also the Vice Chair for Visual Testing on the CMC and just completed four years on the CMC Administrated body as chair of the program maintenance division/Ethics Chair. Marty has also served twice on the board selection committee, seven years on the publication review committee and the last seven years on the non-financial awards committee. Marty has received the following awards from ASNT: George L. Pherigo (instructor of the year) 2010, Mentor Award 2012, Fellow Award 2017. Anderson served on the ASNT Board of Directors from 2016 to 2020.

Anderson has been an instructor and consultant in forty-eight states and seven countries across four continents over the last 18 years. His experience includes a variety of industries, including military (DOD-Top Secret Security Clearance) marine, aviation, petrochemical, pipeline, power generation, structural, highway/bridges and offshore facilities. He has served on five other board of directors including, chamber of commerce (four years), public radio station (two years), baseball team (one year), school board (fifteen years Elected Public Officer), Alaska State work force investment (4 years-Public Officer) and In October of 2016, Anderson joined the (international) ASNT Board of Directors as a CMC council director where he finished a four-year term in October 2020. Finally, Marty currently serves Alaska Governor Dunleavy as part of the Alaska Oil and Gas Royalty Board until 2027 (Public Officer).

Marty has trained more than 12,000 students in the fields of NDT and inspection and has consulted for companies such as Glacier Oil, ConocoPhillips, ARCO Alaska, BPX, Chevron and Hilcorp. He has worked with Internal affairs and has conducted investigations of fatalities, oil spills, quality failure and EPA Criminal violations.
